Summoned By Jesus

A call to go, to be, to become, to grow, to mature…in the Lord

6/1/2023 A month-long trip across the country. (1)

I need to take another detour…one I think and hope you will like. However, this is a very personal experience with many pictures of my travels. You may choose to forgo this blog post and move along to more about ‘the call and the message.’

Planned 6 months before this post, I committed to “go” out to the Pacific Northwest, in my new camper, to see my two grandson’s, Sean and Nicholas. One lives in Olympia, Washington and the other just across the border in Abbotsford, Canada.

I began that journey on April 23rd. And concluded the trip on May 19th. It was a great trip for many reasons. And it was, in essence, a prelude or shakedown cruise for answering the spiritual call to “go.” I had planned to blog along the way.

Now my planning could have been better, because the days were longer and more tiring than I expected (I really didn’t allow for my age.) But I was blessed in many other ways. Before I left my Pastor, JE Caterson, a chaplain for special forces at MacDill, gave me a medallion that mentions St Michael (representing protection.) Then, accompanying me on the trip we’re two nephews, Gabriel and Michael (names of the two archangels), and their father, Bob. We also stopped in to visit another nephew, Daniel, in Coeur d’alene, Idaho.

Even before we left, I felt like the Lord’s hand was upon a trip. As we traveled, our conversations were rich and Spirit filled. I think we ministered to each other along the way. 😊

And in many many small ways, the Lord would answer prayers. As if to say ‘I’m with you’. One of the prayers was for good weather… and we never had an inclement weather day. We had some light rain from time to time but nothing that ever affected our travels.

I have lived in this country for 75 years and driven through many parts of the country…and flown over a majority of the rest of the country. But I have never been on an extended trip like this. Our country is beautiful. From the southern plains, to Pikes Peak, to Bonneville Salt Flats, to the Snake, Missouri, Mississippi & Columbia Rivers, to Mount Rainier, to Coeur d’alene, to Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons, to the mountains of Montana, to Cody Wyoming and the Badlands of South Dakota, our country is wonderfully crafted by God.

In the next several posts I will share with you some of the highlights of the trip. The vistas were wonderful and the topography ever-changing. I will try to do a little preface before each set of pictures. The pictures will be contained in a link which you can view as, if, or when you like. I pray they bless you.

Day 1. Fender bender on 1st day near Ocala. Traveling with Gabriel. He’s an easy traveler. It was midnight before we got to first overnight (boondocking) place.

Day two @ Ft Worth Tx. With brother Ed and his family… Charlene, Michael, and Jonathan. We stayed at a very nice RV Park courtesy of the family. And were treated to breakfast at The original pancake House in Fort worth. It was a delight.

Day three. On the way to Oklahoma city. Repairs to camper done in Oklahoma city. Answer to prayer.

Day four in Oklahoma city. Gabriel and I went to visit the Alfred P Mura building, site of the homegrown terrorist bombing in 1995.
It was very sobering. It brought into clear focus that you can’t fight evil with evil. 168 people died. Including many children. All innocent lives.

Day 5. Traveling across the plains. From Oklahoma to Colorado. Passing through the Texas panhandle and parts of New Mexico. On this leg of the trip Michael did most of the driving. He’s a very good driver and he likes it. Gave me a chance to watch the countryside. Also, he’s pretty quiet. I think I talked his ear off. 😬
