<This is the continuation of “a call and message for men” which came to me in the year after my wife went to be with Jesus.>
Now, if you are like me, the message in the title above causes some consternation, confusion, and possibly irritation. I didn’t understand what He (Holy Spirit) meant when that word came to me about 8 months after my wife passed. But I had never heard it before…not in church, among friends, in bible studies or men’s groups. So, I asked the Lord “what does this mean?”
This is the answer that came to me: I made man first; I called a man (Abraham) to the promised land; I made covenants with men (the patriarchs); the priests of my tabernacle and temple were all men; my bloodline came through a man (David); I had a Son (Jesus) for the redemption of mankind; Jesus’ first chosen 12 disciples were all men.
Again, I asked the Lord, “what does this mean?” To which the Lord, in my spirit, replied (in a question) “What is the role of men?…” What is my purpose in these things related to men?” The answer was that it started in the Garden of Eden. First, God created man, Adam, in His own image and placed him in the garden. He said (first role=obedience & submission) tend the garden. Work (tending, producing, achieving, overseeing, caring) was assigned to the first man. God also gave man the ability to choose and said you can have anything to eat in the garden except from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (second role: obedience.)
THEN, the Lord gave him a helpmate, a companion, a wife. The hebrew word for helpmate is ‘ezer’ or equal partner…rescuer or ally. But she has a different role. Child bearer, mother, nurturer, home keeper, wife. And husband and wife would become one and help perfect the other.
But satan enters the picture and tempts Eve. She eats of the forbidden fruit and offers it to Adam. What was Adam’s role??? To obey God…to say NO. God had given that commandment to the first man. But Adam fails and sin enters the world. (Through the sin of one man <not woman> sin enters the world.) We’ve been struggling ever since. And I believe all of the struggles of today’s world emanate from the misapplication of men’s role and responsibilities to God.
We will explore this more in posts to come…
